The QCBS is primarily concerned with local, state, and federal government legislation concerning the private ownership of all avian species in Queensland.
Our motto: 'Unity in Aviculture'.
Avicultural clubs and societies are invited to join the QCBS to continue to build a strong united voice to protect our hobby and promote the values that bird-keeping represents.
The QCBS has also written the 'Queensland Code of Practice for Bird Sales' which is a recommended list of minimum largely animal-welfare requirements that bird clubs may adopt whole or in part.
The QCBS is the author of the 'Code of Practice - Aviculture' which has been adopted by the Queensland Government as part of the Nature Conservation Act. This document has also been adopted as the minimum bird-keeping standards by the Logan City Council, one of the largest local council administrations in Australia. Special meetings can be called if requested. Affiliation covers the financial year from 30th June to 1st july. Meetings are bi-monthly, with an AGM held in September each year. Attendance via the internet is available.
Affiliated clubs can appoint up to three of their members as delegates to represent their club's views. There are dozens of clubs affiliated with us and it is their input that directs the actions of the QCBS. (more).
